Colour concepts
Even though these images are colour concepts, I feel as though they're quite illustrative and could be used as backgrounds for an animation.
Even though these paintings were created for a Disney Production, the style of the characters and backgrounds aren't very typical of Disney. The colour scheme is dark an blue, with block colours and slight gradients to depict the night.
This is my favourite one from this set of images, because of the depth created regardless of the lack of typical background drawing techniques. It seemed that the aim was to create depth using limited shapes and detail. The contract between the bright lanterns and the dark atmosphere create further depth in the background. There is little detail in this background image, however there is a sense of depth and distance demonstrated through the blue hues becoming black in the distance.
This image was clearly created as a background for a short shot, or transition shot to set the scene around the pond. because the lilly pads are drawn thinner the further away they are, create a sense of perspective in the shot. The focal point for the image is the two frogs on the largest lilly pad. This focal point is created through the way the lilly pad is larger, and the detail of the lilly pads disappear the further away the lilly pads are.
This is the most detailed painting out of the set. There are a mixture of thin lines and block colour to create form, detail and dimension in the image. The shadows create an eerie atmosphere as well as the trees scattered around into the distance. The way the trees get thinner the further away they are, create a further sense of dimension and depth.
When developing my backgrounds I will consider the key elements shown in these images because I like the style and depth created through the gradients and also the textures created through the bold colours.
