Janie Geiser paints images from her dreams as a way of influencing stories and concepts. Her colours are usually contrasting, which often springs from the images that play in her head whilst she sleeps. Personally, I think that this is a great practice as she manages to capture the vividness of her dreams in the form of illustrations as well as her ideas being organic and open to interpretation.
The animation "The Red Book" came from a dream she had. She eventually developed the imagery created in the sketchbook using bright red and intense black paint into a cut out animation that deals with memory, language and identity based around a woman's perspective. The animation is experimental and similar to her original imagery she created in her sketchbook as well as the storyboards.
