Visual Language - Studio Brief 1 - Set, Series, Sequence - Scooter - Group 1

Here are my 24 drawings. The word I was given was Scooter. This brought to mind the typical conotations with the words; Vespa, Children, Mobility Scooter etc. This is my exploration with different mediums and various approaches to the word.

I decided to use pencils throughout because I believe that it is the medium for initial sketches and designs, so I felt comfortable.

Because it's almost Christmas, I decided to base one of my drawings around the season. My initial idea was to have the whole thing in Pencil. However, I decided to add coloured ink to the image. Personally, I don't think this image is my strongest drawing practice. I could of worked on visually depicting movement, by having the tree bending further to the right, and creating anticipation and tension in certain areas.

I decided to look at the modern idea of a scooter. I attempted to draw what's called an "Air Runner". Even though they look quite futuristic, they have smooth edges and organic shapes, which is what I tried to depict. I decided to draw the tires in fine liner to juxtapose the toned down orange lines around. I feel as though I took on a more illustrative outlook with his one and plenty others.

I decided to sketch out an image that I found on Pinterest. I decided to keep this image a sketch because I didn't enjoy drawing this image. I found that whenever I tried to re-draw different parts of it to make the scooter look like the picture, it came out flat. I feel that dimensions and angular objects are something that I will continue to work on in my Sketchbooks.

I decided to sketch out one of my ideas that was based around an old man, riding fast on his mobility scooter. In this initial version of the idea, I decided to keep his facial features humble. My main goal with this sketch was to mainly focus on the facial features, however, I do feel that more work could of been done on the scooter itself by adding tire marks.
I feel comfortable drawing in pencil, and I quite like the pay off that's given when drawing in blue, because of the sketchy texture that's left. However, when scanned in the colour pay off of the blue lacked.

Overall, I feel as though I played safe with these images, and drew in a comfortable and swift way in order to achieve a typical, sketchy pencil look. I feel as though I could of shown more a range by experimenting with shading and texture.
