I decided to go out and take my own reference photos to draw from for my opening scene for my title sequence. I created rough thumbnail sketches to capture what I wanted my scene to look like and compiled a list of visual research to do. Trees were one of my main background attributes in order to create the opening for the titles.
This would be the establishing shot of my titles. It is a scene where a character would be riding her bike through the woods and eventually heading through the tunnel bridge at the end.
I want the trees to be dark and twisted, with a dirts pathway clearly laid out. I was originally planning on having a lot of tree's for the character to ride by, however, this could be difficult to animate seeing as I have never experimented with camera angles that move forward through a scene.
This will be the main image I will reference. the pathway laid out on the floor fits the discirption of my book, and he placement of the trees add to the atmosphere, but wont distract from the pathway and tunnel that would be at the end of the path. I edited the photo to have a darker and blue hue to it in order to emphasise the shadows.
I also focused on taking photos of twisted branches to draw from when created the tips of the trees.
When playing around with the hues and brightness of my images, I came across this effect. I quite like how the blues stand out against the trees, and this has given me the idea that the look of my animation will be dark and mostly black, with bursts of colour on some features. For example, the trees at the beginning will have this saturated and strange hue to them.
I found a stone wall that I though would be good to draw from when drawing the interior of the tunnel, as the description of the stone walls inside is cracked and broken. I decided to edit the photos black and white to emphasise the light and dark areas.
I liked the harsh blueness that I managed to create by adjusting the hues and saturation on my previous image, so I decided to experiment further in order to find a colour scheme for my animation. By creating a colour scheme for my animation, I will be able to reference these images well and create a sense of depth from the lightness and dark.
The deep blues contrast with the peachy hues in the sky. I like this and will hopefully manage to recreate these colours in my animation. Because this is the opening scene for my titles, I want it to be quite detailed, but be able to capture the perspective as well.
